About the Bloomsbury Group

Based on Virginia Woolf’s Bloomsbury Group, the Shakespeare’s Sister Company Bloomsbury Group is the our official young company. They perform scenes that they write, based on their concepts and visions in the world of art. Even though artistically the SSC is primarily female, we honor the concepts of the Bloomsbury Group and accept anyone who would like to become a member. We mentor three age groups of children.

Bloomsbury Players (Ages 12-16)

As the stars of their own production, the players discover the fundamentals of acting, playwriting, directing and collaborate when rehearsing for their premiere production! They shadow the professional company during the show season and learn the nuts and bolts of working in a theater. All experience levels are welcome as players work closely with the SSC members and staff to get the full experience of working in a theater. At the end of the season, they produce a showcase of select scenes on VIP night!

Bloomsbury Troupe (Ages 8-11)

The Troupe builds character, dialogue, plot and theme through storytelling! With improvisation and acting games, they create scenes and develop a play that they will own and perform. At the end of the season, they produce a private showcase for friends and family of select scenes which they’ve written!

Bloomsbury Babes (Ages 4-7)

The Babes explore creative play in puppetry and mask work! Children will understand how to express their thoughts and form them into a story. Through fostering play with stuffed animals, children tell stories with these animals; create their own puppet shows and develop characters through scenes with masks! At the end of the season, they produce a two-part private showcase for friends and family: one with puppets and masks, the other as actors!
